Course description
The course will discuss Nigeria’s selected solid mineral resources, their distribution across the country, estimated and proven reserves, classification according to uses, quality characteristics according to user industries specification, public and private sector organisations and their roles in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, international trade in Nigeria’s solid minerals, government policies affecting exploitation, exploration and trade in the solid minerals sector, such as incentives, environmental and other regulatory issues.
The course is designed to provide information and knowledge on Nigeria's solid minerals sector to enable participants from the European Union to identify suitable solid mineral raw materials for their operations, evaluate the suitability or otherwise of the raw materials, plan and make sound decision on solid mineral raw materials procurement and their sustainable supply, assess the impact of government policies on the solid mineral raw materials sector in Nigeria, analyse the roles and impact of public and private stakeholders on the sector.

The course would last two days with one and a half hours lecture per day, including question and answer session and interactive activities.
Day 1
Overview of Nigeria’s economy and its solid mineral resources endowment, distribution and classification of selected solid mineral raw materials based on user- industries. Estimated/ proven reserves and quantities of selected solid mineral raw materials. Mineral raw materials samples. Interactive discussion and feedback

Day 2
Quality and specifications of selected solid mineral raw materials, public and private stakeholder organisations and their roles in Nigeria’s solid mineral raw materials sector. International trade in selected Nigeria’s solid mineral raw materials, government policies affecting the exploration, exploitation, utilisation and export of the raw materials. Interactive discussion and feedback

Type of training
This course is a combination of online lecture, interactive discussion, review sessions and feedback questions.
Objectives and outcomes
The course is designed to provide participants from the European Union information and knowledge on the opportunities in Nigeria's solid minerals sector. At the end of the course participants will be able to identify suitable solid mineral raw materials for their operations, evaluate the suitability or otherwise of the raw materials, plan and make sound decision on solid mineral raw materials procurement and their sustainable supply, assess the impact of government policies on the solid mineral raw materials sector in Nigeria, analyse the roles and impact of public and private stakeholders on the sector.
